Mattress topper buying guide.

Made of foam, fibers or feather and typically a 2" thick mattress topper is a removable layer added on top of a mattress to provide more support and cushioning. It can change the feel and the style of your bed. However it is not a solution for a worn out or a sagging mattress. It has a wide range of advantages including extending the lifespan of the mattress, increasing softness or firmness and enhancing your quality of sleep.

Advantages of Mattress Toppers:

As lot of people suffer from a chronic sleep issue, a mattress topper can improve sleep comfort from pressure relief to temperature control.

A mattress topper may be able to correct the mattress shortcomings. Some people like the feeling of sinking into a mattress and some mattresses may not let you sink in enough. Adding a mattress topper may help provide that ‘enveloped’ feeling.

If you have a mattress that feels too firm to you, putting a 2-inch  feather topper on it may make it feel softer and more comfortable. A softer, thicker topper can relieve pressure points. The toppers conform to and support the body. This means relief for, say, the thigh muscles, which can feel strained in back sleepers, or the hips, which can take on a lot of pressure in side sleepers.”

A topper can also reduce motion transfer, absorbing your movements as you sleep, rather than sending vibrations across the bed. This cocooning and buffering property can be helpful to restless sleepers and their bed partners, as it minimizes mattress vibrations.

Different Types of Mattress Toppers Fillings:

The feel of a topper depends on its composition. Here is a rundown of the various materials used to make mattress toppers.

• Feather Down Longlast— These toppers provide a good soft support and good heat adjustment. They last for several years and are luxuriously comfortable.

• Micro fiber fills—These materials inside a topper can make it feel more like a fluffy and supportive layer and offer a better level of softness. They are inexpensive and easy to maintain. However, they tend to trap body heat and may not be suitable if you tend to overheat.

Mattress Topper Size and Thickness:

To choose the perfect mattress topper’s size and thickness, first determine the size of your mattress and match your mattress topper to it.
A mattress topper of thickness of 2 inches provides a good support.

A mattress topper with elastic band on all four corners is ideal as it prevents  the topper from shifting from the mattress.

As for lifespan, a high-quality mattress topper will typically do its job well for at least three to five years. That could mean a lot more nights of satisfied slumber.
